CWRU Libraries and Partners Win $552,908 Grant to Promote Librarianship

Kelvin Smith Library, the University Circle Libraries and the Kent State University School of Library and Information Science received an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) award in the amount of $552,908 to recruit undergraduate college students to the profession of librarianship. The idea was first conceived by Joann Eustis, former University Librarian at CWRU, as a way to promote collaborative projects among UCI Libraries. The project, "Exposure and Experience: Development of a Pre-professional Program to Recruit College Students to the Library", was one of 38 Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program grants awarded by IMLS. Betsey Lantz, Director, Ingalls Library, Cleveland Museum of Art, and Gail Reese, Associate Director for Collections and Personnel, Kelvin Smith Library, will be co-directors of the grant with Greg Byerly, Associate Professor, Kent State University School of Library and Information Science.
